Beginnings
After graduating from the Taiwan Baptist Theological Seminary in 1952, the founder, Pastor Hsu Yang, was inspired by God's love to care for orphaned children in the mountainous areas of Taiwan. Pastor Yang and his wife, Ms. Fung-Ying Lin, voluntarily chose to preach at Liugui Church in the southern mountain countryside. It was there that they began to care for the needs of Aboriginal children, since Mama Yang herself was of the Atayal tribe. As the need increased and the number of children being cared for outgrew the living accommodations, it became clear that a new living space was needed. In 1964, the current site of the Christian Mountain Children's Home was purchased from the Taiwan Sugar Company. In the beginning, the area was completely deserted. Being rocky, it was not fit for farming and was frequented by snakes and lightning strikes. Slowly, the land was reclaimed as Mama Yang and the staff planted trees, flowers, shrubs, and some edible plants. Because of the love of Christ shared by the founders, along with recognition from the government and like-minded people, the Christian Mountain Children's Home and the work of Pastor and Mrs. Yang gradually became known to the public. In January 1970, the Kaohsiung County Government provided guidance for the orphanage to become officially registered as a non-profit organization, and the registration was completed in 1972. Besides raising their own four children, they regularly cared for over a hundred children at a time, seeing them on to self-sufficiency and/or college. Many have gone on to lead distinguished careers in Taiwan and abroad.

God's Grace
In March 1974, a baby girl was born without arms. She was abandoned in the market of Ganshan Township. After being sent to the Christian Mountain Children's Home, she flourished under the care of Rev. and Mrs. Yang, who named her En-Dien (Grace) Yang. Former President Jung Ching-kuo encouraged En-Dien Yang every time he visited the Christian Mountain Children's Home. He made arrangements to have corrective surgery performed on her spine at the Revitalization and Rehabilitation Center. With the love and support of her family and those around her, En-Dien Yang learned to paint with her foot and became a member of the International Foot and Mouth Painting Artists Association. Her work has been displayed all over the world, and she continues to encourage others to do their best through lectures and painting demonstrations. She was married in September 1992 and enjoys spending time with her loving and supportive husband, son, and daughter.

A Legacy of Love 
Rev. Hsu Yang went on to become an inspirational preacher, an outstanding teacher, and a person who valued education. He drew inspiration from the teachings of Confucius, and especially the love expressed by Jesus Christ in the Bible, making the care of the disadvantaged and those in need his lifelong mission. With his very capable and hardworking wife by his side, he established the orphanage, and its reputation as a place of love and caring grew. The hospitality and generosity that this couple showed to all who came spread far and wide, and many children were blessed to be raised in the Children's Home.

Pastor Hsu Yang and his wife, Fung-Ying (Rose) Lin, were both called home by God in peaceful sleep in May 2013, just 16 days apart. Rev. Yang lived to the age of 103. Throughout his life, he believed that "making friends, raising children, and preaching the gospel" were the foundations of a good life. His nine-character (Chinese) motto was his philosophy of life. The work that he and his wife started continues to this day. Currently, the Children's Home accommodates about 30 children, ranging from preschool to college. As a way of continuing the work started by Rev. and Mrs. Yang and providing comprehensive social welfare services, the "Sharing Social Welfare Foundation" was established in 2020. The name "Sharing" comes from the sound of two characters in the names Hsu Yang and Fung-Ying Lin. The foundation is an extension of the work of the Christian Mountain Children's Home.
